San Francisco Districts: Twin Peaks West
Twin Peaks, as the name implies, are two hills. After Mt. Davidson, these are the second-highest in the city and San Francisco, CA homes here offer awe-inspiring bird’s eye views of the ocean and the cityscape. The West of Twin Peaks area, also known as Twin Peaks West, includes some of the last-to-be-developed parts of San Francisco CA Real Estate and consists of neighborhoods that were planned as green and spacious residence parks.
Forest Hill
The neighborhood of Forest Hill is aptly named. Though there are no true forests in the vicinity, there are more than a few trees lining its avenues and shading some of the loveliest San Francisco, CA homes. The landscaping here is lush, and if not for the views of the city sprawled below, one would feel as though one were in some far-off suburban enclave.
West Portal
Named after the Twin Peaks tunnel’s western terminus, the neighborhood of West Portal is serene, laid-back and almost completely self-sufficient. With the air of an alpine village, this charming community has a Main Street feel, with one-of-a-kind shops grouped mostly along one road. San Francisco, CA homes here are mostly detached – not exactly a common sight in the city.
St. Francis Wood
Exclusivity defines St. Francis Wood, a residential neighborhood that sits west of Mt. Davidson and south of West Portal. One of the best residence parks in the country, St. Francis Wood has beautiful landscaping, large gracious homes on expansive lots and no commercial areas or establishments.
Mount Davidson Manor
At 925 ft., Mt. Davidson is San Francisco’s highest hill. On its slopes is the neighborhood of Mount Davidson Manor which has single-family homes of modest sizes, but spectacular views.
Sherwood Forest
On Mt. Davidson’s southwestern slope is the small residential neighborhood of Sherwood Forest. Bordered by St. Francis Wood and West Portal, this community is as green as its neighbors and is conveniently close to the City College of San Francisco.
