San Francisco Districts: Southeast
The various neighborhoods in San Francisco’s Southeast District feature real estate that’s a bit more affordable than other areas in the city. A San Francisco, CA Victorian home may not cost as much here as it would in other districts, for example.
Among the neighborhoods of this district are Bayview, Hunter’s Point, Silver Terrace, Portola Heights and Visitacion Valley. Not as well-known as other San Francisco areas further north, the Southeast District has its own charm and has the added advantage of not being as commercialized as other places in the city.
Bayview lies alongside Hunter’s Point, and both neighborhoods have some of the warmest weather to be found in the at times surprisingly chilly City by the Bay. You can also sometimes spot a San Francisco, CA Victorian home in this historically rich area. Much redevelopment is currently going on in these community-oriented neighborhoods. A must-visit is the Bayview Opera House.
Portola Heights, also called University Mound, is a relatively young neighborhood, where real estate comes mostly in the forms of townhomes and single-family homes. McLaren Park is nearby and the streets of the neighborhood are, interestingly enough, named after famous universities. Visitacion Valley lies adjacent to Daly City and its name is a shortening of Rancho Guadalupe la Visitacion y Rodeo Viejo, a tract of land formerly owned by Californios during San Francisco’s days as a Mexican territory.
